Before the existence of the actual nucleus there were two inhabited places. The oldest one dates from the 7th. and 6th.centuries b.C. The ruins of this nucleus are situated on the top of the hill and are called Mont Calvari. Some urns and iron tools have been found, and they are thought to be the oldest ones of Catalunya. After the last inhabited place was destroyed, the township of El Molar, integrated into the Garcia's became a forest area. The Molar suffered from the effects of the phylloxera. It damaged
almost all the revenues of the peasants, although they managed to recover
themselves with the exploitation of the mines. This event had caused
the most important demographic increase of its population. |

The Parish Church was made in honour to San Roque. The style of the church is Neo-classical, and it has an vault that is adorned with lithography, and the sides of the corners are framed with ashlars. It is very interesting to see the "Estació Prehistórica
del Molar" (7th-6th.centuries b.C), which belongs to the later
Hallstattica culture B. It was explored by Salvador Vilaseca. |
