History

Before the existence of the actual nucleus there were two inhabited places. The oldest one dates from the 7th. and 6th.centuries b.C. The ruins of this nucleus are situated on the top of the hill and are called Mont Calvari. Some urns and iron tools have been found, and they are thought to be the oldest ones of Catalunya.

The other village is placed in a plane very near to the fountain, in the east side. Its origin is Romain. There were some ceramics remains and gravestones that could have belonged to the cemetery.

After the last inhabited place was destroyed, the township of El Molar, integrated into the Garcia's became a forest area.

The actual village appeared in the end of the 13th century, or at the beginning of the 14th.centuries, next to a peasant's house that is called Mas d'en Bas. After the Reconquest, one part of the township started to belong to the Cartuja de Escaladei, but the Mas d'en Bas, its gardens and the fountain were donated to the Poblet Abbey by Ramon Berenguer IV, Guillem the Castellvell and others, in 1156 and for the following four years. In 1597, Garcia owned it again, and it was aggregated to it until it became and independent municipality in the 19th.century.

The Molar suffered from the effects of the phylloxera. It damaged almost all the revenues of the peasants, although they managed to recover themselves with the exploitation of the mines. This event had caused the most important demographic increase of its population.
